Ayurveda is one of the oldest medical systems.
Ayurveda is one of the oldest human endeavors for health and happiness in the human history. It is basically aimed for preserving health and curing diseases.

Astanga Hridayam
Astanga Hridayam is the one of the major three classical texts of Ayurveda.

Astanga means 'eight branches'. Classically there are eight classical specialties of Ayurveda including Medicine and Surgery. Hridaya is the 'heart/essence'. There are many ancient texts including Charak Samhita and Sushruta Samhita which are famous for medicine and surgery respectively. The Astanga Hridaya can be regarded as the essence of those whole Ayurveda.

Vagbhat
Astanga Hridaya was composed by Srimad Vaghata, son of Sri Vaidyapati Simhagupta, during 7th century CE in Indian subcontinent.
